Another low risk high reward for Theo!

Adrian Beltre, the newest on Theo Epsteins list of "low risk high reward" players has agreed to a one year $9 million contract with a $5 second year option. The deteriorated Beltre is like another team signing the Sox third baseman Mike Lowell. The most recent low risk high rewards signings by Theo are John Smoltz, Brad Penny, Billy Wagner, and the addition in 2010 of Boof Bonsor. Is this the same general manager that has ended an 86 year championship drought? Is this the same general manager who won the Boston Red Sox two World Series rings this decade? Or is it time to send Theo Epstein and his gorilla suit packing?

  1. I agree with you on most of these issues. Although, having said that, I think that so far out of all the deals mentioned above I think the Billy Wagner deal was the only one that worked out in his favor. Not only did Wagner pitch well for us but because he has signed elsewhere he has given us a draft pick because he was a type A free agent. So I think that was a decent signing compared to the other ones. Don't get me wrong on this point though, I am not defending Theo at all because he has made some really questionable moves during his time as the GM for the Sox. I am just saying that some of his signings/trades have worked out for us (i.e Schilling).
